Are you tired of working out and not seeing results in the amount of toning in your abdomen or buttocks that you think you should see? The Dermatology Center for Skin Health, PLLC, is the first provider in the North Central West Virginia area debuting a new muscle toning machine, Emsculpt.

Emsculpt is the only FDA-approved machine that can burn fat and build muscle; it is the equivalent to performing 20,000 crunches. Learn more about Emsculpt, including:

WHAT IS EMSCULPT

Emsculpt is the first and only FDA-approved energy device that is authorized to burn fat and build muscle for men and women. It is a 30-minute non-invasive procedure that tones the abdomen and buttocks and, by the end of summer 2019, will tone the biceps, triceps and thigh muscles. A package of four treatments for the same body location is recommended for best results.

Through seven different studies, it was found that patients who received four Emsculpt treatments saw a:

  • Nineteen percent reduction in fat
  • Sixteen percent increase in muscle mass
  • And, had a ninety-six percent satisfaction rate

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR EMSCULPT

Emsculpt is not a weight loss solution. Emsculpt is for individuals who regularly workout and maintain a healthy diet. It helps to increase core muscle tone for men and women.

This procedure is a right fit for individuals who work out regularly, but can’t seem to obtain the amount of toning they want or if you want to increase core muscle tone.

Unfortunately, Emsculpt is not for everyone. Anyone who has metal or electronics, like pacemakers or defibrillators, some birth control options like a Copper IUD, etc placed within their body or who has a history of muscle issues should not receive the Emsculpt procedure. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are also a contraindication for Emsculpt.

HOW DOES IT WORK

Emsculpt uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to promote muscle contractions that are not achievable through voluntary contractions through working out. As the muscle is exposed to these intense contractions, the muscle is forced to adapt to such extreme conditions, resulting in burned fat and toned muscle.

Muscle mass and fat loss are not permanent. If you don’t work out regularly, your muscle mass won’t be maintained. With Emsculpt, you may see the results last for six months; however, it is recommended that patients receive maintenance treatments. Typically, it is recommended that patients receive four initial Emsculpt treatments followed by one maintenance treatment per month.

DURING AND AFTER THE PROCEDURE

During your first consultation, you’ll meet with your Emsculpt provider. Your provider will talk with you about specific toning goals, as well as perform a full-body assessment. This assessment will allow the provider to examine your body and the treatment area and discuss realistic goals of your treatment.

Emsculpt is a painless treatment that does not require any post-treatment downtime and no side effects are proven to be shown. It is highly recommended to stay hydrated. There aren’t additional pretreatment requirements involved for those using Emsculpt.

During treatment:

After the patient completes their consent and questionnaire, their Emsculpt provider will weigh, measure and take pictures of the patient. The provider will ask the patient to remove all metallic accessories, as well as clothing around the treatment area. Next, the provider will start the procedure:

  1. The patient lays comfortably on a bed.
  2. The applicator(s) is placed over the desired treatment area and its held in place by a fixation belt.
  3. The provider will adjust the stimulation intensity based on the patient's feedback to assure it is always comfortable.
  4. Then, the provider will gradually increase the intensity throughout the session to maintain comfort at all times.

The machine will deliver two phases during the 20 to 30-minute treatment. It alternates between the very strong muscle contraction phase and a recovery phase to reduce lactic acid build-up. After the procedure is finished, the applicators are removed and the patient is finished. As mentioned, there is no downtime with the Emsculpt procedure. Patients may resume daily activities, including working out, right after the procedure.

Ensculpt should never replace traditional exercise as natural exercise has many other benefits.  Emsculpt can compliment your current exercise routine and healthy eating habits to help you reach your personal goals.

RESULTS

With the Emsculpt treatment, patients should see tangible results approximately two months after the last session. From there, patients will see results continuously improve. The seven studies have shown it has increased muscle density by 16 percent and reduced fat by 19 percent due to release of epinephrine which breaks down the fat. Results can vary.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EMSCULPT AND COOLSCULPTING?

While reading this blog, you may be thinking to yourself, “Emsculpt seems similar to CoolSculpting.” While, yes, both procedures are meant to help individuals achieve realistic body goals, here are a few differences, such as:

  • How long it takes
  • How many treatments are recommended
  • The expected results
  • Pain
  • Side effects
  • Treatable area

CoolSculpting is the only FDA-approved, non-invasive fat-freezing procedure. This 30 to 60-minute procedure uses controlled cooling to eliminate fat bulges in the:

  • Neck
  • Thigh
  • Abdomen
  • Bra area
  • Back
  • Underneath the buttocks

Adults keep the same number of fat cells throughout their entire lives. When an individual exercises, these fat cells shrink, whereas CoolSculpting eliminates them completely and permanently.

Side effects can include swelling, bruising and pain.

Emsculpt is the only FDA-approved, non-invasive, toning and fat burning procedure. This 30-minute procedure can burn fat and tone the abdomen and buttocks.

Not only will Emsculpt burn the fat in the treated area, but it will also tone the muscle, giving the treated area a slimmer look. Emsculpt does not have any current side effects.

While there are a couple of differences between these two procedures, it may be recommended that patients use both treatments in tandem, depending on their body goals.
