Frequently Asked Questions About Coolsculpting Elite

Read our answers to common CoolSculpting Elite FAQs to understand if this is the right treatment for you. CoolSculpting Elite is an FDA-cleared fat reduction treatment that works to treat areas that do not respond to diet or exercise. The procedure is quick and straightforward, with results lasting long after your appointment.

How Does CoolSculpting Elite Work?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions about the new CoolSculpting. Here is how the procedure works.

The CoolSculpting Elite is a non-invasive procedure that effectively targets and freezes stubborn fat cells without damage to the epidermis, dermis, nerves, or blood vessels. In the weeks following, your body naturally breaks down fat cells and eliminates the dead fat cells.

With the new Coolsculpting Elite, the dual applicators allow more treatments in the same amount of time as compared to using 1 applicator.  The CoolSculpting Elite applicators are larger and shaped to better fit your natural curves, delivering up to 20% to 25% reduction in fat layer thickness after a single session.

At Dermatology Center for Skin Health, PLLC, photographs are taken to capture treatment outcomes for the Coolsculpting Elite procedure before your treatment. Treatment areas are assessed and marked. A gel pad and applicator are applied to the skin. The tissue is drawn up into the applicator cup, and the cooling is delivered to the treatment area. Treatment time could be 35 to 45 minutes, depending on the applicator. Once the treatment is completed, the treated area is massaged for 2 minutes. This assists with the breaking down of the destroyed fat cells and filters them through the lymphatic system over time.

Depending on your personalized treatment plan, the procedure takes about one to two hours to complete.  There is little to no downtime for recovery, and you can return to your life as usual after your appointment. Results are visible in as little as four weeks. Most commonly, though, you will see results in about 8 to 12 weeks.

How Soon Can I Have Another Treatment Done In The Same Area?

Most patients choose to retreat to the same area 4-6 weeks following initial treatment. Treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart often show a more noticeable

cumulation of results (individual results may vary), although it is possible to wait longer if desired.

How Soon After Pregnancy Can I Have Coolsculpting Elite?

The time needed for a CoolSculpting Elite treatment after giving birth varies between patients. After having children, waiting until your weight becomes stable before a CoolSculpting Elite treatment is ideal. This is because CoolSculpting Elite is intended to reduce pockets of fat in “problem” areas. Therefore it depends on how soon your baby’s weight comes off and how mentally ready and motivated you are to have the treatment done.

What Preparation Is Required For Coolsculpting Elite?

There is no special preparation required for CoolSculpting Elite. We advise treatment areas to be free from acute sunburn and free from moisturizers or anything that could potentially irritate the skin during treatment. Unlike invasive surgical procedures, you do not need to stop any medications or blood thinners before treatment.

Exercise After Coolsculpting

There are no restrictions on exercise after CoolSculpting Elite. Some people say exercising after CoolSculpting Elite aggravates the pain, while others say exercise helps.

These patients say stretching, walking, aerobics, and light yoga make them feel better. So it’s really down to the individual. And you’ll probably know right away.

How Many Hours Does a Coolsculpting Elite Treatment Take?

A CoolSculpting Elite treatment can last anywhere from one to several hours. Treatment time depends on how many cycles are needed and how many areas you

want to treat. During your complimentary consultation, we will inform you how long you need for your CoolSculpting Elite procedure and book your treatment time accordingly.

Bring something to keep you busy. During the process, many patients read a book, or watch videos on their phones, work on their laptops or take a nap.

Is Coolsculpting Elite Painful?

CoolSculpting Elite is a non-invasive and gentle procedure. Patients may experience a slight pulling sensation as the applicator adheres to your body, followed by the cooling effect. The treated area will become numb within 5 to 10 minutes. Mild tugging, aching, and stinging are totally common. Any discomfort is usually very minimal.  Patients may experience pain, swelling, cramping, and some bruising after CoolSculpting Elite, side effects are temporary and should subside in one to two weeks.

What Is A Coolsculpting ‘Treatment Area’?

A CoolSculpting Elite ‘treatment area’ is the section of your body you choose to target. Examples of FDA-cleared CoolSculpting Elite treatment areas:

  • Upper abdomen
  • Lower abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Back
  • Inner thigh
  • Outer thigh
  • Chin
  • Under the Buttocks
  • Bra Fat
  • Upper Arms

What Is A Coolsculpting Elite ‘Cycle’?

For some treatment areas, the CoolSculpting Elite device has to be moved to cover both sides of the treatment area, for example, the left and right sides of the flanks. Each time the CoolSculpting device is moved to another site within the same treatment area, it is considered a ‘cycle.’
